Clarendon Historical Society of Jamaica

Pennants Research Project

Jamaica and Wales have a significant shared history and the North Wales Jamaica Society invited the Jamaican High Commissioner, the Honorable Seth George Ramocan and his wife, Dr Lola Ramocan, to Bangor in North Wales to explore this history.

This visit was the starting point to a project now called 'Building Bridges of Friendship' between Clarendon and the area of Wales where the Pennant family invested the wealth generated from their plantations which were mainly in Clarendon.

Dr Lola Ramocan is the Patron of the Jamaica Wales Alliance and a Civic Link is being created between the Bangor area in Wales and Clarendon.

The Pennants Heritage Research Group started to explore the shared history on the weekly JWA Zoom sessions and then from 2024 - 2026 exchange visits were funded by the Welsh Government's Taith project.

In July 2026 the Pennants Heritage Research Group organised several site visits with Liz Millman from the North Wales Jamaica Society and organised the first Pennants Heritage Day on Tuesday 21st July.
